Weekend In Brecon Beacons

After a very long Wii session on the Friday night, the four of us set off to the Brecon Beacons early on Saturday morning. After collecting our bikes we set off along the Taff Trail towards the Talybont Reservoir. Once Shashank had got to grips with the gears, we were away. The first 8 miles was a steep climb along country lanes - a good warm up to the day ahead.

The track along the reservoir was tough - uphill and bumpy. We were beginning to realise how tough the mountain biking was actually going to be in Costa Rica. The last, almost vertical, stretch of the track was a real push - I didn't quite make it all the way but the three boys powered on and made it to the end.

After some grub and a well deserved cup of tea, the boys made their way to a steep trail down where as I (and my very sore bottom) whizzed back down the track.
Despite losing Shank for a while (worrying but very amusing), we all made it back down to the reservoir and started on the ride back down to Brecon. Simon intelligently suggested the canal route back, therefore avoiding anymore steep hills!

We finally made it back (very muddy) 35 miles and 5.5 hours later; gave the bikes back and headed off the nurse our sore muscles and a pint in a friendly Brecon pub.
Excellent day was had by all but it certainly supported our belief that we all need to get out on our bikes, up and down mountain tracks as much as possible before March. Although the gym is convient, there will be no better practice than getting out there and actually doing it.

Thanks,

Suzie
